New start new year 2016!
Over the past 6 months of being down at the boat yard Richard and I have been busy pulling apart timbers from the wrecks using all manner of techniques, though in the end wedges and a sledge-hammer proved the best. Prizing them off and cutting the iron pins is not a fast process! We got some lovely teak off the deck of Teresa and pieces of oak. With the teak we cleaned up and plugged then reshaped following the original deck lines of Teresa which we then inlaid into metal frame finished in battleship grey. We both enjoyed the collaboration and challenges designing and making this piece.
We also found the engine fuel tanks were shaped to each hull making some amazing mirrors involving a heavy wire brush session followed by a hard wax and fixing a wooden backing so the mirror glass can be removed.
One of the main projects is the boat pod made from the bow section of Anthony Stevenson built-in 1945 at Fraserburgh Scotland. We have upturned the bow on one end and using marine resins made her water tight again and put her original fishing registration number back on! The doorway proved to be challenging but we came up with a good solution within an aluminium round opening.
These are combined projects although we will continue to work together and design some great pieces we both want to pursue are person interests and will focus more on this for 2016 so watch this space!
